Oiltanking Ghana, an oil and gas company based in Tema, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility partnered with the European Union to embark on a massive Covid-19 education and distribution of FDA approved reusable facemasks to vulnerable communities.
The program selected 5 local partner organizations to implement. Visionary Buluk Organization was selected as one of the 5 organizations in Ghana to implement the project.
The main objectives of the program are to
• Give education on preventive and protective measures against Covid-19
• Protect poor and vulnerable persons against Covid-19 by distributing FDA approved reusable facemasks to them
• Give general Covid-19 education to demystify and kill conspiracy theories about the disease.
The distribution of the nose masks as well as the Covid-19 education were done through
• Door-to-door (D2D) campaigns
• Small scale business centres campaign
• Bus terminals or Trotro stations (commercial passenger cars stations) campaign
• Selected groups such as widows and people with disabilities
The Door-To-Door (D2D) campaign focussed on visits to slum communities and inner cities to sensitize them about the disease as well as educate them on the preventive and protection measures against the disease. FDA approved reusable nose masks were also distributed.
The Bus terminals or Trotro stations (commercial passenger cars stations) campaign involved interacting with passengers and drivers, distributing stickers with messages on Covid-19 and peaceful elections. It was then crowned with the distribution of FDA approved nose masks from our partners – the EU https://europa.eu/european-union/index_en and Oiltanking
With the Small scale business centres campaign, visionary Buluk Organization extended the sensitization and masks distribution to smallholder businesses on the street.
Selected groups such as widows and people with disabilities were not left out, Our team donated nose masks to the school for the deaf and a group of 200 widows. The headmaster and the queen mother received the donations on behalf of the school for the deaf and widows, respectively.
